Long-term Follow-up of Astigmatic Changes in Cataract Surgery According to Incision Length
|

Abstract
|
|
|
We analyzed an astigmatism of 123 eyes in phacoemulsification with 7mm incision length and suturing(Group 1), and 170 eyes in planned ECCE with 10mm incision length and suturing(Group 2) performed by one surgeon and surgical technique.
The astigmatism was analyzed by algebraic and vector methods for two years following surgery. Surgically induced corneal astigmatism is stable after one month in Group 1 and after three months in Group 2, but changed continuously in both
direction
and
magnitude for two years in both surgery(P>0.05).
The amount of surgically induced corneal astigmatism produces significantly lower astigmatism in Group 1 than Group 2(P<0.05). No significant differences in the course of surgically induced corneal astigmatism between male and female, and between
less
than 60 years of age and more than 61 years of age are seen(P>0.05). Significant difference in the course of surgically induced corneal astigmatism between preoperative with-the-rule astigmatism and preoperative against-the-rule astigmatism is
seen(P<0.05).
